We have a burner module that's been fixed by the amazing Gary at ARC.
There seems to be an opinion that the bathrooms need not be used for fear or water ingress, and that most camp sites have toilets and showers; but we are using the van more and more for 'wildish' camping in Scotland, where there is nothing but a view and possibly a tap. So, after a sweaty run, it's great to shower off. I have checked the bathroom out, and run some basic drainage tests - all seems to work and it's dry.
But I have looked for info on the storage heater.
- I am presuming that the storage heater fills with water as the clean water tank is filled?
- How long should it take to heat a full storage tank of water until it's at max temp?
- Should we be able to get a three minute shower from a full storage tank (realise that there a variables: temp, pressure)?
- As the storage tank drains while the shower is in operation, does it refill with cold water from the clean water tank?
- Is it ok to keep the Carver switch on (and I presume that if the Carver switch is on, the burner is on?) while one showers, working on the basis that the storage tank refills when showering drains the hot water, and this influx of fresh cold water starts to heat up if the burner is on?
- If the clean water tank is empty and the storage unit is drained as the shower is used, does the burner module turn off or does it try to continue to heat an empty storage tank?
- Is there a best practice way of using the hot water storage system?
The heater will not just fill with cold water. The pump will fill and keep it full. It will take a while for the pump to expel all the air but when the system is full, you're good to go. The heater works by the pump supplying it with cold water and forcing the hot water out- it does not pump water from the heater, so the heater is kept constantly full.
Max temp - quite a while. I think it's about 40 mins. If you have a 240V element, it will be faster and you can use both gas & 240 V together. It's usually OK for a quick hose down.
I can't honestly remember if the gas heating has a thermostat - I expect it must have a high temp cut-out.

Agree with the above.
We didn't use our shower in the AS Clubman because it didn't drain away quickly enough. We had water in the shower tray all day!
You can conserve water by showering the submariner way - get wet, turn off shower while you lather up, then rinse off. Remember, the more you shower, the sooner you'll have to go to a site to fill up the fresh water tank & drain the grey water legally. In some parts of Scotland it may be 2 hours drive to the next site from where you parked up.
But you'll need to stay on a site every 3 days or so (roughly) to empty your toilet at their CDP & refill the flush tank.
The OP has not been around since posting this, but they may still be lurking and might see your request.
Or possibly another member can help.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
You'll find that most of the equipment in motorhome / campervans is common across makes. Carver water heater, Zig charger, Electrolux / Dometic fridge etc. are fitted to many different vans.
Layouts, trim etc. may vary, but the basic functions are the same.
Good luck with your van.

The OP hasn’t been back since those 3 posts in 2018, but may still be around. And yes, many different makes & models of MHs & campervans but mostly the same fixtures & accessories. So try searching this forum or the Equipment one if you need help, as most problems have cropped up already.
