Can anyone tell me how you connect the khyam awning to a VWt4, there is no gutter on a t4

I do have a Justkampers awning which has sucktion clamps, just wondered if I changed to the Khyam how it would fit.

AFAIK the Khyam fits to the side of the van with plastic figure 8 section that clamps to the guttering. I think, as an alternative, you can attach a C channel to the side of the van.

I have a Khyam but haven't tried it out yet (hopefully I will do this weekend). However I was talking to the guys who supplied my van at the Southern Motorcaravan Show yesterday. They have had trouble with the plastic 8 section attaching to the guttering in high winds (on my van, the Cavarno, there is some filler in the original Transit gutter which gets in the way of the plastic 8 section connector). This was the solution he suggested if it causes a problem.

Can you let me know what the edge is like on the awning, is it like the awnings you put on caravans and you slide it on, or is there a pole threaded through the edge.

I'll get back to you with the answer to that after the weekend if that's OK.

We have a D rail gutter screwed to the side of our T4. The awning connector 'rope' fits into one side of a plastic figure of 8 plastic strip (from Just Campers) and the other side hooks on to the gutter.

Chris and sandra do you use your Khyam XL as a gazebo and extra bedroom, it has got me thinking seeing your pics, a friend of mine has an XL for sale this would solve my gazebo and sleeping problems in one hit.

Where do you get a D rail from anyway,

We use a proper Khyam awning on the VW (the XL is for sale now).

We did consider using the XL but, as we only needed something for sitting in etc (not for extra sleeping space) the bedroom area made it a bit too big.

We did consider a Khyam screenhouse, but were then offered an awning at a similar price and therefore went for that.

It is a measure of just how much we like Khyams that at present we have 3! We just would not consider any other tent.

You've probably got the answer already, but the awning edge is a flexible beading just like a standard caravan awning - you slide it on to the figure 8 section plastic adapter that then clips to the guttering. It would fit into a standard C channel as I said in my earlier post.

The awning performed well over the weekend, despite some very heavy showers. The only problem was water collecting on the tunnel to the van which had a very flat roof. I fixed that by only using 2 of the plastic channels on the guttering which reduced the area collecting the water. It took me about 1 minute to get the awning up and then a further 15-20 to peg it out.

I've been looking online for the khyam, camperlands seen to be a good price, any suggestions on anywhere else, oh and the other thing i forgot to ask, which model do you have, the classic or the taller one (can't remember the name of it now)

Off to weymouth today with my khyam gazebo, the justkampers awning i brought is 8m wide so too big for the pitch which is only 6m wide, oh well, lets hope we don't have too much rain this week.

Thanks your all your advise, if I could have got a khyam awning locally this week I would have got one, but our local supplier has stopped selling khyam.

If your T4 has the first 30mm or so visible above the door top and below any high roof or elevating roof that you may have then thsi may help. REIMO produce a special extruded aluminium rail that will provide an awning slot and a rain gutter all in one. They are not cheap but in my mind are the best available. You will find them at http://www.reimo.co.uk/index.htm the awning rail is not shown on the site but give tham a call for details.

I have just looked at www.camperinteriors.co.uk they show the khyam being used with either a pole or beaded edge, the pole would suit me as I have another awning, rather large for a few night trip, this has a pole and suctions clamps that I would possibly thread through the edge of the khyam.

I do have a fiamma awning already fitted but stands proud of the vehicle, so water comes in between the fiamma and the vehicle, I suppose I could screw the 'c' channel to the brackets on the fiamma.
