We have bought a second camper that has been extremely well looked after and stored inside but unfortunately that isn’t an option for us. We also want to use the camper over winter. Has anyone got any tips for how we look after it on our drive (recommended covers etc?) I am assuming the water tank needs draining but how do you stop water freezing in your tank on a trip - recommendations for what you use?

We used to use our MHs throughout the winter months but as they only tended to be 2-3 night getaways, and more often than not on 'sites with full facilities, we tended to keep the water system fully drained down, and just use a standalone water container.
(with a spray bottle for the loo flush, if it's fed from the main freshwater tank, as our last van was).
We use our MH throughout the winter and often wake up to a winter wonderland here in the North East. We always drain all the tanks when not in use but must admit we have never had a problem with tanks freezing on a trip. For the toilet flush I cut a piece of 1" thick foam the same size as the tank door and put it inside the door to help with the cold. Not sure about van covers as they can cause condensation and chafing on the paintwork. Normally with the heating on at the campsite it should stop anything freezing.
Thanks for the advice! I have just found a place to store the camper that is an open barn but at least the camper is protected on 3 sides and overhead. Will look into the drain ideas too
Extra to the above post, mice and rodents in general follow urine trails, as this is the case, if your van is parked up in a barn then spray the tyres with something like Jeyes Fluid, not forgetting the inner/hidden side of the tyres.
