Hi, I am converting my van for camping and have had an awning rail attached and bought a Khyam drive away awning. The thing is I have no idea how to re attach when I drive away. Haven’t tried it yet so it’s going to be a long learning curve. Any advice gratefully received.

We were are in the same position but found a good video on youtube. Norwich camping have a good video on youtube showing how to attach, detach and reattach a drive away awning. Just put in youtube search facility 'how to attach a drive away awning'

Though you can thread most drive aways straight onto the grooves on the awning rail......it’s so much easier to use a filet strip and a figure of 8 plastic section. This way it allows the awning part to be reattached simply by threading it back on via the channel by joining the awning back to the the figure 8 rail, the other side of this then onto the filet strip which is onto the awning rail on the van.

That sounds complicated but it’s not. We also find it’s easier to use the figure 8 in 3 parts for easier storage. A tip though if you use parts......is to buy measured strips of the figure 8 or if you cut it yourself make sure it’s a clean cut and do not squash or make the cut rugged.

A much easier solution.....is to have throw over straps that go right over the van and are secured by pegging into ground on the other side.

Vango have a good u tube video on attching awning.

For me.....the hardest part is re aligning the van up again before even considering re attaching awning......it takes practice. All part of the fun

We use this for helping when returning to the pitch. They are fluorescent so help even when returning after dark. Its helps realign the camper when you return. There are also videos on youtube showing how to use them.

I believe you can get magnetic awning rail strip so the entire rail can be pulled off the van when you drive away then held against it to reattach when you return.
