Hello from a confused newby trying to work out the best way to access internet for phones, laptops, streaming etc whilst travelling Europe in an old motorhome.
Have read about dongles, routers , satellites but as a technological pygmy do not know what will work - easily & efficiently.
Need it to use i phone, watch stuff and work from laptop & listen to the Archers .
Can any one give advice or recommendations?
Thank you
We use a MIFI in the van, I have a contact with 3 that cost £10 a month for 20G of Data, also included is Go Binge which allows us to stream Netfix without using our data, we use google chrome to cast it to the TV in the Van through the Netflix app, alternatively you could set up a similar system with your phone using it as a Hotspot but you need to ensure you phone contract allows to do this for free as some will not and you will be charged extra.
I use a Huawei MiFi I bought the one with the sockets which allow an external arial to be attached, got an unlimited SIM card from Three and an external arial off the net.
Only used the arial once that was on the North York Moors site last week. No phone signal but managed to connect to the internet with the Mi Fi
Very impressed with the performance I also use it in my place of work hence the unlimited data sim.
Not sure about the overseas use
I have an iPhone on Vodafone with unlimited uk
And Euro data ( until brexit !!)
I use it as a WiFi hotspot for my laptop - other than having to plug my phone into the charger as it runs the battery down quick I’ve experienced no problems
Not sure if you want to use it abroad, but Three only allow you to use 19gb under their fair usage policy. Vodafone say that you can use all your allowance abroad. I’ll be testing that next month.
Yep, not long to wait for the SpaceX Starlink system to be rolled out, fast low cost broadband to your motor home using an antenna the size of a 10” pizza box, I would guess the first systems will be available 2022.
Where I live my home internet has struggled for year barely getting over meg in speed. I decided enough was enough & I now have my internet with my mobile provider.
The router is an Alexa so you can listen to the radio being streamed onto the device plus you can connect up to 64 devices to it.
Ok the downside is you will obviously need to get a phone signal for it to work properly & in all the sites I've been to Kelling Heath was probably the worse one but everywhere else I've managed to ok so far.
Another plus is you're not having to rely on the campsites WIFI which lets face it over busy periods is impossible to use as nothing will load up.
As for that Starlink yeah I guess it would be great for internet users just a pity all that junk flying around up there will ruin the skies....
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
