Any advice on cassette cleanliness and general toilet hygiene & "fragrance"?
Have been warned NOT to use bleach but commercial chemical solutions seem harsh.
Has any one used ordinary biological soap block in cassette - I've been told they work well and do not damage environment.
You're new to UKCS (welcome!) so you won't know this is a common topic. You can use the yellow Search tab to look at previous threads as there are lots of answers.
Some sites only accept emptying toilets that have the Green liquid in the cassette rather than the Blue. And no "biological" laundry liquid or soap unless you want to kill off the site's septic tank, expensive for the site owners (see the online advice for septic tank owners).
What you put into the fresh water flush varies - many use the Pink liquid but it's highly perfumed. Personally, I add a dash of dettol. Some MHs have a water flush just like at home. But no - no bleach. Ever.
As for toilet paper - that's a separate topic in itself. Some do not allow any, it's binned like you may have to do abroad. Others use the thin stuff sold for porta potties, or quilted Andrex only. Your choice.
Oh, and I seem to remember some people wrote about lining the bowl with some sort of disposable paper or cling film; I can't be bothered with that. More unnecessary stuff into landfill. But maybe it's essential if you're super particular. We use the site facilities - our loo has never been used, though it's ready....
Welcome and No its not a sensitive question. We all have 'to go'.
The flushing water has two different systems. A separate tank for just the flushing. Which is a very small, usually see through, polythene bottle type of sized thing. To be found within the confines of the cassette 'tank' cupboard. Or the water from your onboard 'everything' water tank. Best to establish which, as you can not add pink flush liquid to your on board tank that you use for washing up / shower or bathroom sink.
We buy the pink flush liquid and put it into a used washed out spay bottle, then just spray it around the toilet bowl, prior to flushing. Our tank water being drawn from the hot/cold/washing water tank. To be honest any squeezable bottle will be OK for this.
Blue liquid for the cassette. Depending on what sort of weight you want to carry to the elsan point, keep a mental note of how many flushes you make.
We always carry a small amount of Green fluid, for just as Fiona said, some site holding tanks work on the septic tank system, and blue would cause costly and time wasting problems.

Never acurred to me that using a cassete toilet could be so complicated for some.. cleanliness hygiene and fragrance was the original line, not the full blown personal directive. If it smells, empty it, clean it, maybe one of the contributors could do a video on youtube, use mulligatawny for effect..
A month ago, OP said "All toilet tips welcome!" if you'd read to the end.

Well on my van it's not see through and not that small either, at 8 litres I find it sufficient for around 1.5-2 emptyings of the waste tank before it needs a refill.
As to Pink & Blue (or Green) fluids. I've just started to use the Pink/Blue Thetford fluid that came bundled with my van as my usual Elsan Superkem had run out. NOT IMPRESSED! The old Superkem (used in both flush and waste tank) kept the loo fragrant with no odours from the waste tank or overpowering perfume smells, but the Thetford fluid smelt highly perfumed in the bottle but is totally infective in the waste tank, open the flap and you are greeted with an unpleasant stench of sewage! Won't be using it again, got some more Superkem, the remaining Thetford stuff will be stored for emergency use only! I'm not the only person who has commented (other posts elsewhere) that they are not impressed and will not use the Thetford fluids again. Superkem is also environmentally friendly, suitable for use in septic tanks (don't be mislead by it being coloured blue - read the blurb about it!)
