Hey all, so we got a Mercedes Benz viano with a westfalia set up, 2006 model, second hand. The fridge is westfalia rc 1142 model. We've had it for 2 weeks and been traveling the whole time with it with zero issues until now. The fridge stopped working either yesterday early morning or the day before yesterday. The battery should be fine, we've driven yesterday, the day before, and today with it at least 2 hours each time, plus the water pump etc works. We turned the fridge off for an hour then back on again with no hurrah. Really hoping there's something simple we can do that we haven't thought of yet if anyone has any advice. Thanks in advance!
OK, I guess that you are in the U.S. these 3 Way fridges are a real pita, and if I was you I would replace it with a 12v compressor fridge, either built in or stand alone portable type.
If you can get to the back of the fridge (via the outside vents) test the supply with a meter.
From the info plate it’s 12v does everything else on 12v work, eg lights, water pump?
Does it work on ehu or gas (if applicable)
Where in Spain are you, there are quite a few service companies operating in Spain
I think the RC1142 is a box fridge that should just pull out without having to get at it via the external vents. I think it is a 12v only compressor fridge so it should not be too affected by high ambient temperatures, but it just may be that the coolant has go so hot that it can't cool enough through the cooling fins before it returns to the compressor, getting a good supply of cool air around it might help.
As Barry says it might be expedient to take it to a Dometic service centre and get them to test it.

Hi Gabbss, my fridge is an Electrolux not sure if it is working on the same prisipal as yours.
But here's how I fixed mine.
I had the MH plugged into the house mains for three weeks, saw the fridge was lit but had enough jobs to be attending to and never checked it was actually working.
To my horror my wife tells me it's not working, the night before we are going away in it.i went on YouTube and found a top bloke, who suggested turning the fridge upside down.to enable the water and gas concoction to mix, the fridge was absolutely dead.
Left it in my garage overnight upside down.
Next morning turned it right way up.applied 240v left it an hour, to our amazement the fridge is now working like new.
Hope this helps you or someone reading through.
Best regards Gary
Make sure the condenser is clean and the condenser fan runs when the compressor does, if the condenser is dirty or the fan is faulty then the compressor will overheat and trip out.
If the condenser is clean and the compressor and fan run then check to see if the thinner pipe coming from the compressor to the condenser is warm/hot, if there is no heat then it could be short of gas or compressor faulty.
"The fridge stopped working either yesterday early morning or the day before yesterday"
It sounds like it's suddenly stopped working then...
First things first, is the compressor running?
If not does the display indicate that the compressor is running?
Is there any noise at all coming from the fridge?
Hello! Sorry I was unable to reply, it was a hectic week. So, we took the car to somewhere to fix the fridge (thanks Barry for the tip that there were many options here in Spain!). We'd taken it quickly to one place that specialises in campers--they didn't do a lot, but said the fridge was completely done in and we'd need a replacement. We were a little surprised as how would it just happen to completely break two weeks after we got it second hand--that's some pretty bad luck. But also, the fridge was not responding AT ALL. So we decided to get it checked by a decent dealer before committing to that. We kept it off for three days too, then turned it back on: nothing. Disappointed, we took it to get it looked at.
They called that day to let us know it was working without them doing anything?? We were, obviously, delighted (no having to buy a new fridge yay!) but also confused. They thought maybe we didn't know how to turn it on (mildly insulting, we'd been using it for almost two weeks before it just stopped turning on). They think they may hav just moved one of the fuses when they opened it up to have a look and it had just been loose or something.
So, anyway, very strange but we are very happy it's working. We took it out this weekend and it worked just as before! Super stoked. Thanks so much for people trying to help, we really appreciate it.
