We are getting a awful smell from the hot water thank. We have cleaned the grey waste fresh water tank even run vinegar through system. Water from taps has not smell but when we put the boiler on to heat hot water we then get the awful smell. Any advise please. We are new to Motorhome so running out of ideas what to try next 🥴. Our water heater smells too, when I’ve put it up from Eco to High to wash the dishes. A bit acrid - is that the same?The dealer (we bought it new) says it’s not a problem so we ignore it & it doesn’t last long. The actual hot water coming out of the tap doesn’t smell at all - if yours does, then that’s something different.

Saying that, white vinegar is good to remove unwanted smells but we need to know what sort of smell?!
I'd put boiler on max with gas and electric. That will give maximum performance of the boiler in the shortest time. Then run all outlets until you've exhausted hot water, then wait for it to heat up and do it again. If it's a new van it might just be a matter of flushing out the newness.

We experienced a similar problem with a water heater. It was awful and we took the van back to the manufacturer who in the end changed the heating system to a different manufacturers as they couldn't sort the problem.
It took over 6 months for us to get it resolved, I would take the van back to the dealer and ask them to get it checked.
Thank you for replying. The smell is not as bad as was. It’s not a new van. So hoping it’s just were it had been standing for a while before we purchased her. We still think it’s coming from the boiler. So flushing whole water system out with vinegar still. 🤞
We have the smell to, it’s been back to Vantage who built the van, it’s all ok, nothing to worry about. No point in flushing the system it’s an heat/ electric smell not water or pipes. Open a window.
Thank you everyone that gives us some advise. We finally managed to solve the problem....it was our leisure battery. Was an old one when we bought the MH so replaced it and the smell has gone!!! Hallelujah 😁😁

Do you have a Carbon monoxide (CO) detector, as these are sensitive to hydrogen as in your battery gassing and can be a good indicter to a dying battery
