Hi guys, I have an Electrolux RM4200 fridge in my motorhome, I’ve had a fair few things to do in the motorhome since purchase so left the fridge to check until last, plus my drive is on a bit of a slope and these fridges like to work properly on level ground.
Last night I parked it on level ground and switched it to gas and left it a few hours, came back to find the ice in the freezer compartment had made ice cubes and the fridge was lovely and cold, I was thrilled, I then turned the gas off and used 240v electrics, came out this morning to find the fridge had not cooled at all, a few calls later and it seems the ‘heater element’ has failed, not knowing a lot about these fridges and to cut an already long Story shorter, I’ve purchased a fully working Electrolux RM4200 from Runcorn caravan services in Cheshire. My question is how difficult are these to swap over and should I be aware of anything, I’m over 50 so common sense isn’t an issue by the way 🤣👍 cheers Tony
My only concern with self fit would be the gas connection. Unless you know exactly how to correctly and safely connect it, I would be inclined to get a mobile caravan engineer to install it .
Fridge only works in 12v mode while you are driving. It works from vehicle battery not from leisure battery. To check 12v is ok take vehicle for a drive for half hour or so then put your hand on the cooling fins inside fridge at the back. If they feel coldish then 12v is working. 12v mode is only to keep fridge cold once you are driving. Generally the older the fridge the less well it works on 12v.
Not changed an element myself but provided you are ok with diy screwdriver work it looks an easy enough job.
Thanks Billy much appreciated, is there a way to check the heater electrically via a multimeter rather than drive the motorhome? I’ve now bought a replacement Electrolux fridge of the same model and wonder if it’s worth me changing the element (s) in order to sell the fridge on to someone who may need it ? Is it even worth doing ? Cheers Tony

you dont actually have to move your motorhome, but aslong as your revs are above 1200 then it will kick in on the 12v to work on the fridge. the only other issue is DONT LEAVE unattended with the engine running, your insurance would be void if anything where to happen
