Hi guys I have a 1998 Autohomes wanderer and need some advice please, beneath the foldaway entry step to the living area is a micro switch on a bracket, on mine there is a length of wire which has been tied up out of the way not connected, im led to believe this was for a warning buzzer to sound in the cab if you started the van with the step still in the lowered position, I'm keen to connect this back up again and get it working, I've been underneath the camper several times looking for where the other end of this single wire connected, but can't for the life of me find see anything, I have the original wiring diagram for this motor home but it doesn't show it on there either, any help would really be appreciated, I'm led to believe many autohomes of the same period had this fitted too, so any help would be great, thanks in advance.
Tony, my last van was a 1988 Wayfarer and did not have either a foldaway step or warning device. I don't recall this being offered as an option, (but I could be wrong), so I imagine that it was an owner/ dealer modification.
I found that the wiring on my Wayfarer was so badly done, that I re-wired a lot of it and re-located the leisure battery. It should not be a difficult job to re-install a warning system so maybe that would be the easiest route.

Aha !, thank you, maybe I falsely believed it was always on there rather than fitted at the factory which would explain the missing wiring on the diagram ? So that leaves me another problem of understanding the wiring and how to wire it in then 🤣
That should be no real problem. The microswitch will have two wires and I suspect that one will be earthed to the chassis/ step frame. The other will go to the negative of a 12V buzzer. The positive of the buzzer will go to a 12V feed that is only active when the ignition is on.
You would need a vehicle diagram to identify this, but the easiest way might be to use the 12V feed to the fridge which is only active with the engine running.

That was also my initial thinking too, also it’s the nearest electric feed as it’s next to the fridge below the floor that’s only active once the engine starts, there is definitely only one wire on it though unless ones broken off ?
When you say microswitch, I'm wondering if it's more like the 'plunger' switches on the doors where the body of the switch is metal and forms one connection. These only have one wire.

That's fine.. should be easy enough to get a buzzer. They're a couple of pounds from FleaBay. Ages ago I made an alarm that sounded if I started the engine with the EHU connected in case I drove off without disconnecting it. I've seen it happening to other people.

Would anyone on here be kind enough to jot down a simple wiring diagram based on my single wire switch, Im not too bad with wiring once i have something to work from ðŸ‘
Tony, you don't really need a drawing. Assuming that the switch provides the earth connection, the wire from the end of the switch will connect to the negative (usually Black)of the buzzer. The positive (red) from the buzzer will attach to a suitable positive lead.
