Just wondering if anyone has ever owned a motorhome and a caravan at the same time. Have a caravan on a seasonal pitch which we use a lot. Thinking of a cheap motor home which we could use out of season. Happy to let family use it also. Thoughts please.
I had both but the caravan wasn't on a permanent pitch,I have since sold both
as it proved cheaper to rent a cottage,static etc and the van spent more time on my drive than on a site.

I’ve seen plenty of older camper vans towing small caravans. Seems to be in lieu of a tent for sleeping when there isn’t enough room for everyone in the camper, and the caravan would also have the shower & toilet. Towbar might be a specialist fitting for some MHs.
However, if you’re duplicating facilities & don’t need extra beds, I’m less convinced of the idea; which unit gets the EHU cable....
Sorry! missed that. In that case you’ve got a limited time to use the MH that’s been sitting somewhere for the other 10 months, except when family uses it.
Every year we intend to go away over winter & maybe only do one trip because far fewer sites are open: you could use the Site Search & check what’s open then within a couple of hours drive from home.
as our static is in france we will be more limited now but we try to use the moho as much as we can and will prob be using it in the UK a lot more this year.
its an expensive combination and i reckon the motorhome works out as the largest expense and staying in hotels/b&b's/statics on site would prob work out a lot cheaper
we are lucky in that our static in France is still worth more than we paid for it (we sold our previous static for around the same as we paid for it AFTER 9 years!!) but the moho does depreciate far quicker. you could buy a previously loved very good condition moho for around 15-20k that would have very little depreciation over the next 5 years if you choose wisely, but as i suggested its not the cheapest option to 'holiday' but it does give you freedom of movement (albeit limited at the moment in mainland europe)
if i was asked to choose between them, the moho would win hands down. if asked which is the cost effective option, it would be the static - but only because of the lack of depreciation of sited statics in France (compared with the UK)
I like statics, but I'd never have one in this country. They are an absolute money-pit with the way site owners have everything sewn up between themselves. Very different situation to in Europe, as MisterB hinted! If I want to stay in one in Britain I just rent one for a week.
Motorhomes are way out of our price range, and we could never justify one even if it was given to us. We simply can't afford to go away that often, and you have all the upkeep, insurance, road tax, and MOT to bother with. This is why we have a tourer, as it costs us nothing when we aren't using it, and we can just hook it up to the car when we do want to, as it stands on our driveway.
We have a static, a folding camper and a motorhome. All with different uses.
The static is brilliant, loads of space, all set up, like a home from home really, My Mum lives there now (Long story) but great for weekends,
The motorhome we have had since upgrading from a tourer 9 years ago and has taken me and the kids all over Europe, is great for a quick night away somewhere different or accomodation whilst visiting people. Also great for a holiday whilst visiting multiple locations especially abroad. It is expensive to run though and we have to make sure we use it regulary
I bought the Folding camper last year as we were due to go away with friends to france and stay in one place for 2 weeks (motorhome then becomes a pain and my tent takes up to much space in the car with everything else), However this didn't happen but we did take it for a 2 weeks to the south west (One week in Devon one in Cornwall) where we managed to go to lots of places the motorhome wouldn't in the height of the school holidays but this is inexpensive to buy, stores easily and is essentially like half a caravan but without the costs of storage/ ease of towing.
I think having a motorhome is great for a touring holiday or a cheeky night away, I tend to say for 2/3 days somewhere then move on in the van, The static is great for ease and comfort but can get boring going to the same place.
