Huge investments into electric powered vehicles at the Nissan plant They are even building a huge factory to produce the batteries. They produce much of their energy from wind turbines, and plans are afoot for a solar panel farm too.
My concerns with an electric campervan is the reliance on solar energy, which is not reliably available in UK!

The one in the Guardian article can be plugged in as well as geneerating its own. Obviously it's just a student design project at the moment but it's an interesting look at how things may go. And it looks cool.

A combination of solar energy, plug-in and self-generating models would interest me.

I would think it will be fairly soon that all base vehicles used for campervan & motorhome conversions will be available as electric vehicles so presumably the future in maybe 10yrs time will more likely be electric motorhomes & campervans with reasonable range rather than electric cars towing caravans which will restrict range of car.
I shall stick with diesel as long as I can though.

Same, and I have planned to keep my van for at least 7+ years.

I agree with this. Bearing in mind my age, I have to consider how long I can continue to drive. Although quite happy with driving at present, I do find 3 hours is far enough, so to travel any further would necessitate a stop over.
Also the cost of something like this would be far beyond my pension. So it is keep going with the caravan and diesel Mondeo as long as I can.

I am with you completely. At 73, my driving career is coming to an end. I have no desire to ever drive an electric vehicle. I just have no fancy for them at all, apart from fairground Dodgems. I am pleased to have driven when roads were quiter, and high powered petrol engines could be driven enthusiastically, Proper driving vehicles with none of the technology that has turned drivers into vehicle operatives. I wonder when the kids will realise that electric power is not the green solution to saving the Earth?

The VW ID.Buzz campervan is due for release in 2022; depending on what battery you choose, the max range is given as 340 miles. It looks smart.
UKCS site search now includes an EV charging point in its search options, though judging by the stanchions we saw on a recent tour, there’s usually a car charging already so you may have to wait a while until it’s free: frustrating if you’re needing to head off promptly.
Looks impressive and good luck to them however maybe they would be better off concentrating on looking for alternative environmentally friendly source of power like hydrogen instead of all the rare earth metals being used in the production of batteries? Although not truly rare some still have to mined and this causes damage to the environment.

I can bet on it that it will very expensive at launch!
The range is good on one charge on paper, however, whether it will be this good in real life remains to be seen.
The lack of charging points at campsites would be one of my concerns for owning an e-vehicle right now.

There's a company in Yorkshire that converted a VW Bay Window to electric using Tesla running gear which they hire out. They have planned a route which takes in campsites which have the facility to recharge the van overnight. Very popular and a great idea with the infrastructure they have created themselves.
There's a long way to go though before electric campervans are practical for the same type of use that we use our present diesel or petrol vehicles for. Also the price for all EV's needs to come down as realistically the only ones that are any where near affordable for the average working man are those that are the size of a shoebox!
