Hi We have recently purchased out first motorhome ( VW Compass Navigator 4 Berth) we are looking at renting it out through a port to post rental company such as Camptoo or Goboony when we won't be using it. Can anybody suggest an insurance company who deals with self drive hire. The few companies we've looked at seemed to be a bit pricey. We are not sure how many rentals a month or year we will be doing but we'll start slowly
I would imagine any such insurance will be very expensive as the risks are so high. You never know how it is going to be treated or even if you will ever see it again. Some years ago now a small company near to me used to hire motorhomes, but they stopped doing it after they had two stolen and probably taken abroad. Very easy to do if they will fit in a shipping container. I believe that is what happened to my Mazda Bongo that was stolen from outside my house and no trace of it was ever found.
The problem is that if you have hired it out for a week you won't know that it has been stolen until a week later when it doesn't come back. It could be in Africa by then! Please be aware of the risks before you embark on this venture, but I wish you luck.
would not even think about it insurance servicing milage you would need to take deposits big one,s even then your taking a big risk just use it and stay happy you will live a life of stress if you go down that road
If renting aren't you obliged to have the gas and electric checked after each usage. What if you rent it to a cowboy driver and you get the speeding tickets plus an engine and gearbox that has been thrashed and needs repairing. When selling it needs to be mentioned that it was a commercial vehicle for rental and trade in price will drop drastically. As you have already found out insurance will be astronomical. Too many pitfalls to even consider renting.
