Quick question, we’re looking to buy an iveco motor home, it has been advertised as having a fridge that works on 12 volt and gas and not on 240. Would this be repairable? Expensive? Etc could it cause us problems if we didn’t repair it?

Is the fridge meant to work on 240V? Worth checking. If it is a three way, check circuit breaker and fuse in plug and that it is selected to 240v.
A caravan engineer should be able to repair it if it is faulty.

Is it a conversion by a well known manufacturer or is it a self conversion?

The reason I ask is our first MH was a 2004 model, it had a three way fridge and we got the impression when we bought it in 2006 that these were pretty common, prior to that in our tent we'd used a camping fridge that worked on gas and 12v only, if it's a self conversion have they used a camping fridge? Or is it that there's a fault with the three way fridge?

Dave's advice about getting a caravan/motorhome technician to look at it is sound.

Usually if a 3 way fridge is not working on 240v & provided voltage is supplied to fridge then cause will be a failed 240v element. About 40quid for element plus fitting which would be at least 2hr labour charge I guess as fridge would have to come out. Alternatively if know what you are doing it is a fairly easy diy fix.

How old is motorhome ? If fairly old it might be better to replace fridge with new. A 12v compressor fridge might suit you better.

I have a 12v only fridge in my Bongo camper, it runs off the leisure battery. When parked up with EHU I just connect the leisure battery to a heavy duty battery charger, this keeps it charged enough to run all the 12v lights and fridge. It has worked well for the last 5 years.
