it wasn't so long ago that diesel was £1.27 a litre, at today near me its £1.72, wife was moaning, seen some at £1.90, as we have a few trips away i started to work out the cost of travelling, a trip from wales to lands end and back with detours using goggle total miles 741. average 30mpg. time of booking fuel was £1.55, = £175.92. so if it gets to £1.90 = £215.60 and if it tops £2.20 =£249.50. so sites are costing me £400 approx all booked,, so for approx £650 its still a cheap week compared to renting cottages +travel cost.
Fuel costs are already having an effect on me. I have recently had my notification of pension increase and that increase will be swallowed up several times over by the energy price rises. We have already scaled back on car use and only use it when walking or public transport isn't a viable option. If we do go away with the caravan this year it will be to somewhere much more local and ideally to somewhere near a station so that we can use the train for our trips out.
We don't have anything booked yet, but then we never do until at most a couple of weeks before we go. We do intend to have a week in Cornwall in May, but that will be to stay with my sister-in-law and travelling down by train using our retired staff passes.
If diesel reaches the predicted £2 a litre it's doubtful the caravan will be going anywhere this year, it will be just days out by train.
No we won't be changing our plans..this year's trip to Italy was originally planned for 2020, postponed to 2021, and now finally we're going no matter the cost.
I am taking fuel costs into account though in our budget so we'll try to offset the fuel price increase a bit by staying at cheaper and/or free places and avoiding toll roads if we can.
We only get around 25mpg so if diesel reaches £2 per litre then we'll probably spend around £900 on fuel for the trip
We won’t be changing our plans. It is what it is unfortunately, we both still work full time so time away is precious. Previously we’ve gone abroad, even had two narrow boat holidays in the uk which have been close on 2k for a week.
Hopefully won't change our plans!! as yet. Got the whole of may booked in Tenerife. Hopefully a week in Scarborough area in June. Hopefully a fortnight down St.Ives in July/August. Then start again back tenerife the whole of Nov.. Assuming this situation in UKRAINE doe's not get any worse.
The MH is depreciating just sitting outside doing nothing, that’s a hidden cost. We’ve just had its MOT, Hab service, insurance & road tax all in the one month. We’ll just bite the bullet with fuel. Supermarkets mid £1.50s, BP almost £1.80, but local fuel station had no diesel presumably due to panic buying. That was more worrying.
Glad to hear Mrs B is still coming north!
The trips planned for this year will not be changed due to increase in fuel price.
They will only be changed if something urgent/important crops up for work, like a site visit.

No plans made yet and I have a lot of other commitments in the first half of the year. For the last two years we haven't used the van very much so our savings have grown and unless prices become really stupid, they won't affect us. Mrs. L is having some grand ideas for later in the year - maybe Seville again.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
I had been thinking of fuel rises and whether to change our plan to buy a small 2 berth to tow (for a change of scene or odd weekends) when we get our static. I've come to the decision that camping and caravanning is our life and If we need to make financial savings it will be elsewhere. For eg eat out less when away, eat differently at home, less meat more veggies healthier anyway, get rid of Netflix which we never watch anyway and be less wasteful with the lecce (TV is always on standby for example and all the lamps usually on). There is a list of things we could save on without it making much difference to our lifestyle at the moment. We don't live an extravagant lifestyle but we could be less wasteful (something I've only recently become aware of).
We will be off to France as usual, health permitting. However we may not do the milage that we have previously done, more for the health reasons than price of fuel. We are always aware of costs, and there are some energy savings we could make in the house.
In the end, it's all about balance. We spent years being careful with money, now we don't need to.
We won't be changing our travel plans this year because for the last two years everyone has had the experience of Covid-19 regulations, lockdowns and campsites closed etc. and people have just about had enough of it all now. However, if the fuel prices at the pump escalate dramatically by the end of 2022 then we may have to change our plans accordingly in 2023.
We tend to drive less distance with the caravan these days. It's an age thing.
I have been looking for sites within an approximate 3 hour drive from home. When we decide to go, I will phone around for a booking, but only a few days before we travel.
I think we have reached the age that we can not "put off" our holidays. We can not be certain how many years I shall be driving, so to hell with the cost.
Once on site, we have always followed the rule of parking the car and hopefully not needing it again until the return journey. We have electric bikes so we to much of our travel using them. Alternatively, we try to use local buses, which, fortunately are still free for us to use.
We're not changing our plans either, well, not because of the price of the fuel, we're both working and we'll take the hit, we've been so looking forwards to our forthcoming continental trip, we've missed out the past couple of years.
Like Monty 15, I will be cursing under my breath at paying the price though.
