Hi, anyone local can take out fridge in motorhome and put new one in. Or just take out.
We have a 3 way fridge and while we was away the fridge set on fire. Luckily I was still awake. We can’t use motorhome as is as we won’t be able to use cooker.
Any recommendations please.
We are in Fleetwood. FY7
Welcome to UKCS. Google for a mobile MH service engineer. However, even if they can come & take out your fridge at zero notice (they’re booked up weeks ahead in my area) it’s very unlikely they’d carry a replacement in stock.
I think you’ll end up using your usual dealer or whatever at home.
Never heard of a fridge going on fire, wonder why that happened, but I guess there’s always a first time.
Why can’t you use the cooker??
Is that your Hymer parked in the driveway ? I guess the fridge caught fire while running on gas ? If you are going to run fridge on gas the flue & burner need cleaning at least once a year or they will fill up with debris & cause a fire as you have found so ensure you do that with your new fridge.
You need to contact a mobile caravan service person. You should find one local to you. They can take out old fridge & fit a new one. Not cheap in the slightest.
well the cooker will still work, and the fridge doesnt take much to change esp if you had a donar either from a motorhome or a caravan and they are easily obtained from the like of ebay
Check the width of the 3 way fridge first then check the width of the doorway as in most cases the fridge is wider so no chance of removing it. The appliances and furnishings are installed on the timber base then the timber framed sides are fitted afterwards that's the reason why it cannot be removed. However, this is the first time I've ever heard of a 3 way fridge catching fire.
I removed my fridge from our motorhome and replaced it with a compressor fridge and I removed the fridge in my caravan to service it, very simple.
There's a video on the Caravan Channel showing how to do it.

thats not right Tango, we have removed a couple of our fridges in varying caravans in the past and had no problems at all with the removal once the screws where located by sliding something long and thin between the fridge sides and the wood unit. the pipe work was disconnected via the outside and removing the external vents
As Marg points out you can still use cooker & other gas appliances. In van somewhere will be the isolation gas taps. Turn off the isolator for fridge & it will be ok to use everything else.
Fridge can be removed easily by removing screws under trim. Yes they will eventually catch fire on gas if flue & burner are not serviced for years.
A likely scenario is if motorhome is acquired & previous owner always used fridge on mains hookup & did not use gas for yrs. Unknowing new owner starts fridge on gas & the accumulated debris catches fire.
Buyers of used motorhomes or caravans that intend to run fridge on gas should always pull out fridge & clean compartment burner & flue.

I did actually say to the OP to measure the width of the doorway first and then measure the width of the fridge before removal just in case the fridge is wider. I remember a few years ago that it was a common fact that fridges were wider than the doorways because I knew two people who had problems with the caravan fridge under warranty and had to undergo a repair due to the fact that the fridge was wider than the doorway and couldn't be replaced. However, on later model caravans and motorhomes that may not be the case anymore.
