If G#Winger is correct it would take me quite a while to fill. And I would need a wheelbarrow/trailer to cover the considerable distance, I'm not that strong. I think I'll ring the local water board and check when/if it happens. I can't imagine every campsite/camper complying though.
Hosepipe ban is a hosepipe ban. Its not "Hosepipe ban but it's ok if you are using it to fill up something". If you are using a hosepipe and there is a hosepipe ban then you are a very very naughty person. I suspect, however , that instances of anyone being fined or arrested or sent to the gallows for not following a hosepipe ban, are extremely rare.
Please don't have a go at me as I only asked a question ... and I now have an answer from my water authority so if anyone is interested they can ask their water authority. I certainly don't mean to offend anyone on this forum or break any rules. And some of you have got it wrong.

Of course it would be ok.
Presumably the water authority also said it was fine to do it ?
Copied from elsewhere:
"Can I fill my motorhome water tank when there's a hosepipe ban in force?
The restrictions on the use of hosepipes is officially known as a Temporary Use Ban and includes: 'Drawing water, using a hosepipe, for domestic recreational use.'
We consulted with Thames Water and they have advised us as follows:
"The definition of domestic recreation use is:
a) recreational use in connection with a domestic swimming or paddling pool or on land that is used or enjoyed in connection with a building, or part of a building, used principally as a dwelling, other than for the purposes of a business;
and
b) recreational use on land that is used or enjoyed in connection with a building …used principally as a dwelling….
Therefore it will be possible to fill a motorhome or caravan water tank using a hose during the Temporary Use Ban. "

As have I. It was explained to me that as one of the exceptions for use of a hosepipe during any water restrictions is:
'Using a hosepipe for health or safety reasons, where this includes (a) removing or minimising any risk to human or animal health or safety; and (b) preventing or controlling the spread of causative agents of
disease;'
So as the water will be used for personal hygiene, food preparation flushing the loo etc then filling the water tank in a motorhome would be covered by this.
Chrisandsandra... my water authority agrees, they clearly said, Yes we are allowed to.
Thank you everyone except the grumpy one, I didn't appreciate that.

what's the difference between filling a watering can from a tap direct and filling it from a hosepipe connected to the same tap ? That's right, nothing. It's not the physical use of a hosepipe but rather the intention, ie using lots of water unnecessarily. It just gets called a "hosepipe ban" for a snappy summary headline.
