Firstly may I say story to the members that think I’m a nuisance. I’m not very good with the internet and have MH issues which I have inherited only the last few years.
I am a novice but joined this group to hopefully to get advice and some confidence.
My heater in my motorhome will not work. I’ve been told it’s probably my element.
I’ve phoned a local caravan fixer who straight away says he has never been able to get new replacement elements for the boiler.
Can anyone tell me if they know any company that sells them.
If I need a new boiler. Will have to buy a new one. This heater is 21 years old same as the van.
I’m sorry I’m not great at explaining these things thank you
------------- It's nice to be important. But its more important to be nice.
If you are using gas then the condition of the heater element isn't important, however if you've never used gas for the heater I would recommend that you get the system checked by a service engineer first. If the motorhome hasn't been used for a while it would be a good idea to have a habitation service anyway, if you get a mobile service chap to come and service it he will be able to show you how everything should work and answer any questions you may have.
If the van hasn't been used for three years you may also need to replace the leisure battery.
Do as Rob & Tina says and get it checked out if you use gas. We never used on gas for about 3 years always on electric. But when on a Site and their electric bollards failed, switched to use gas but the boiler valve leaked and had to replaced it.
If it's the standard type of copper coated element that are in a standard domestic boiler then the resistance across it would be under 100ohms. Maybe slightly above. When they go, they tend to go into the megaOhm range. I know this may not be much help to you but some people do have a multi meter and are able to safely check the resistance of these things to be sure where the problem is. There is NO NEED to have it connected to any power source to check this, in fact it needs to be disconnected.
Obviously if there is voltage at the two terminals of the heater element and it doesn't heat (or heats slightly) then it's probably gone. 21 years is pretty good going
