We have purchased a Elddis Autoquest 180 and was interested if anybody had found an awning suitable for this model. We already have Fiamma fold out awning but wanted something fully enclosed but I can’t seem to find one that will fit. Any help appreciated.
Try the search - this topic comes up regularly. You’ve not used your MH yet, I’d say don’t rush into buying an awning unless you know you will need it for storage or sleeping. The wind out awning is enough for shade & light rain.
A drive away takes up valuable space & valuable weight allowance in a MH. One huge benefit of a MH is you drive up, hook up & you’re done; almost as quick heading off. Add the awning & you’re adding an hour to this process.
On this current site, about half the pitches have MHs or PVCs / campervans (caravans on the rest, no tents). Not one is using a drive away.
Good advice above post. My friend bought one used it once and found it more trouble than it was worth and sold it. Bought a small free standing tent but does not even bother with that most of the time.
Good advice, we have been putting up a small tent to store any extras we take but can’t fit in the MH when using it. Only takes 10 mins to put up or take down.
Hello, and welcome to our dedicated forum.
Firstly do you want a drive away awning or just an awning that you can pitch alongside the van? Because to be honest, a drive away (one that you can leave on site) and come back to. Does not have to be attached to your van or its existing fiamma rollout.
However rollouts are only helpful to keep the sun/rain off for the period that it rains, or the sun is shaded. (don't forget that the sun moves, you will be lucky to get a quarter of the day shaded)
We have 2 awnings, both are the drive away type. We never attach them to our Fiamma roll out. One is very large and has to be pithed lengthways down the side of the van. The other small and can be pitched anyway it suits us. We use them for fishing gear, outdoor furniture (Table and chairs) and bikes when not on the bike rack. We do eat in them, mostly at the end of the day. The awnings tend to weigh a lot no matter which type you buy. This /these take up a lot of your weight available for use.
Don't rush into it, check out both types, and remember you do not have to attach any awning to that rail.
Good internet browsing for you. Or visits to camping shops.
Watching MHs come back to the driveway and negotiate to fit back onto it exactly can provide entertainment for the rest of us. I’ve read there’s a knack to doing it (leaving a marker on the pitch?).
A friend who attaches a tent onto the wind out only does it if they’re staying put for several days as it takes him a couple of hours.
And yes, I’ve used a pop up festival tent for the golf bag in the past; now it just goes underneath the MH at night. As do the outside table & chairs.
