Got a 2013 Swift Bolero 630EW built on a Fiat Ducato with a Swift installed 2-channel camera display unit instead of the central rear-view mirror. Rear view camera comes on automatically with ignition and automatically switches to downward facing camera when reverse gear engaged. Until yesterday I've never even touched it because it has always worked automatically every time. But yesterday when I started the engine the display was dead. I tried pressing the on/off switch and the various other switches. Nothing. I'm hoping it is just a fuse. But where is the fuse? Swift manual says the fuses are in the habitation area fuse box Power Supply Unit. I've studied them but none are labelled camera. I've taken each fuse out and checked it, but none have blown. Does anyone know if there's another fuse somewhere else? If not, has anyone got any suggestions? The cable goes direct into the display unit so I can't unplug it to test continuity. The cable is not easily accessible once it goes into the roof above the passenger. I have also checked ALL the vehicle fuses. I'm going away in the motorhome in a couple of days and I can't get anyone to look at it before I go and I'd like to have it working for the trip. Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thank you
Possibly worth getting in touch direct with Sargent, who have a good reputation for support (NOT my experience though!), who may give you some clues.
My gut instinct tells me if it's fitted in the cab, then it'll be tied into the base vehicle wiring rather than the MH conversion wiring, not a lot of help really! As a VERY low powered device, it'll likely be piggy backed off a fuse for some other circuit rather than have a dedicated fuse solely for it, but it may well have a dedicated fuse in it's supply line.
Electrical faults are nightmarish to fault find (even more so remotely, and trying to guide others!), ELECTRONIC faults often take on a new dimension in nightmare terms as you have both basic electrical fault issues PLUS electronic failure potential to consider and that is a whole different ball game (that's my background!)! If basic electric supply/earth/connector issues are eliminated, then fault finding almost certainly needs test bench investigation!
I have now been able to connect the lead going to my monitor/rear view mirror to the mirror in another van of the same make. The second van using the cable from my van works perfectly, therefore I have found the fault is actually the monitor in my rear view mirror has failed! I don't understand why as no one was anywhere near it. It just stopped working!
Inside the mirror is a small motherboard, which on visual inspection shows no sign of damage or items visibly burnt out. As I can't find anywhere that could check/repair it, I will now have to buy a replacement Sargent RVM460 Reversing Mirror Monitor. Except I am having trouble sourcing one in a hurry.
Has anyone any ideas where I could purchase one in a hurry?
Electronics often cease to work when a electrolytic capacitor (the things that look like tin cans!) fails, often without any external signs, although a bulging end on casing is common.
As to a quick fix, if you have a local electronics/TV repair man, he may be able to resurrect your existing unit.
I have just been on the phone to Sargent ref buying this replacement mirror/monitor and they have quoted £182!!!
Now I am trying to find anywhere like a Swift Motorhome breakers yard in the hope that I can get a second one a LOT cheaper, can anyone recommend or point me in the right direction?
