Hi There, I am having rain leaks in my camper and after much searching, we think it could be coming in via the vent from the gas fridge on an outer wall of the truck. Does anyone know of a vent which is adjustable and possible to use with a gas appliance (as many say they are not) or some kind of a cowl to deter the the rain from coming in. I appreciate it would be dangerous to shut the vent when the fridge is operating, but there are many times when it is not and it would be really useful to be able to shut the vent, or as I say install one with a cowl (if such exists) during these times. - thank you Sarah

Hello Sarah and welcome to the forum.
I assume that you're seeing water somewhere in the van while, or just after it rains. Are you sure that the rain is getting in through the vent?

I have never known this to happen as the louvres on the vent point downwards and should stop any water ingress. Can wash the the van without any water ingress? Is the vent sealed properly to the side of the van?

If the vent is the common Electrolux / Dometic vent there is a cover that clips over it, but this is for when the van is not in use.

Not sure if you mean you are not always using your fridge at all, or not using it on gas (assuming it's a typical 3 way type).

Both Dometic and Thetford do 'Winter Covers' for fridge vents, they do NOT stop you using the fridge on any power source IF the outside temperature is cool enough, as in Winter and below 6C, but they can also be used to stop water ingress at any time/temperature if the fridge is NOT in use.

https://www.dometic.com/en-gb/outdoor/uk/products/food-and-beverage/fridges/fridge........

You need to ensure you get the right ones for your fridge/vents, but do shop around, you can find them MUCH cheaper than the RRP, got mine well under half RRP!

Our winter vent covers aren’t a complete seal, there’s still a gap around the outer rim.
As others have said, it’s not a typical source of dampness (not saying you’re not correct though). But as in a house, where a chimney problem shows up as damp maybe 2 floors away (I speak from experience) - have you checked higher up especially if your awning rail is fixed on the same side.

I would check the sealant around them more likely to leak there. We have been in high winds and downpours and never had wet enter through the louvres

Does it only leak in when raining or could it be from the condensing drainpipe whish isn't positioned properly.
