I have a Carver Cascade gas only model installed in a small camper van.
With the main cover and the aluminium shield removed it will light on the first attempt every time , however with both covers installed it takes five or six attempts to get it to light. I have two burners and the problem is the same with both units. Any ideas?

you are not meant to light either of them with the covers on! that will explain why your having a hard time, most of us on here will have tried lighting them with the cover on only for the bang as the cover gets blown off with the pressure

I didn’t make myself very clear. The cover I refer to is white metal plate with a square air vent in the centre behind which is an aluminium plate with asbestos backing. When both of these are removed to service the burner then it lights at once with a good flame, but not when they’re back in position
