The sliding door was not quite right when I got my camper a week ago, the interior handle was off so to open from inside we had to open window and open using the outside handle.

I also noticed the stop cap at the end of runner outside was slightly damaged and made a mental note that that needs replacing.

The previous owner explained how to lock the sliding door from the outside and then then pushing the hinge inwards and it would lock into place. This technique apparently worked OK for the previous owner for 10 years.

Not so good for me, however!

I must have forgotten the explained technique and out on a drive unfortunately the door slid open at some force breaking what was left of the stopper at the end of the exterior runner I heard it clink on the road and dissappear into the darkness of the night.

Thankfully the door did not come off on the road and I was able to pull up safely at which point it did fall right off! Thankfully no major damage, no broken window and no one harmed. It was a mammoth effort to get the door back on the runners as I was alone but I have been unable to close the sliding door properly since and have had secure it (after a fashion) by a temporary bodge job using cable ties and a bike lock accross the sliding and passenger door handles.

Where can I go to get it repaired? Or is it something I'm going to have to do myself?
I called a few local garages and no one I'd interested in looking. I live in Central Scotland.

Any help would be much appreciated. I really need to get it sorted as it's very insecure anyone can see from outside the doors nor properly closed and at the moment I can't open passenger or sliding door. Its not safe plus the rain can get in.

Have you tried to google talbot express owners club?
That is possibly the best place for advice unless there are any owners here.

Confirming there is a Talbot Owners Club but I don’t know any details. I think you’ll find they’re helpful.
Also try any businesses that do panel van / campervan conversions. I’m not up to speed with which ones survived Covid but there used to be one at the coast near Cloch / Gourock, for example.
And Google for specialist breakers - there are ones that only deal with Motorhomes & campervans.
Good luck - it’s disheartening when something like that happens so soon: when we bought a 10 year old Autosleeper, we found out just in time that the timing chain had been put on upside down. And the Habitation Service found a bird’s nest in the gas heater flue. Hopefully your door will be the worst thing to go wrong.

Thank you for your kind responses! I must join the Talbot owner's club. I found a Motor Home Repairs company in Glasgow and they do list on their website door repairs so seems hopeful so I'll try them in the first instance as soon as I can. It will be a relief to get it sorted.
