I would advise getting some de humidifiers from (B.& M & Wilco or similar) before spending large amounts of money.
I say this because we use them in the house and they really do work. Our house is massive down stairs and the bedrooms upstairs are in the roof. The whole of the ceilings upstairs are fully and totally insulated, as are the spaces between the bedroom walls and the roof. However those bedrooms are kept free of condensation with those damp traps. It is unbelievable the amount of water they produce. Best bit, they cost nothing much to buy and to run.I honestly would give it a try.

No point in heating an unused Motorhome, all that happens is the moisture level increases and more condensation forms on cold surfaces such as windows, plastics and steel sinks. place a few of the disposable dehumidifiers around and let the temperature drop so the inside is the same temperature as the outside, but with the dehumidifier pots, moisture in the air will be removed providing a nice cold but dry atmosphere inside the habitation. The van is not sealed (floor vents flues etc) so there will still be air movement inside. We have a pot in the bathroom, in the cab area and one at the rear when first placed they all filled to half way in a couple of weeks. once replaced with new ones, the air was dry and just the bathroom one gets a small amount (condensation from the plastic fittings). I also notice the difference when popping inside to do some tweaking!

The de-humidifiers in a motorhome just remove the humidity in the atmosphere in the van which is immediately replaced by the air coming into the van via the gas vents in the floor etc.
Unless your motorhome was hermetically sealed all you are trying to do is dehumidify the outside world!
The only way to reduce condensation is ventilation, that way the internal temperatures are near the outside temperature.
The bowls of crystals etc will always absorb moisture in the air giving the impression that they are effective but whatever they absorbed is replaced from incoming air.

Warm air carries more moisture than cold air, so possibly having the reverse effect than desired by having the heating on at all! You may have to heat it toasty warm (at GREAT expense!) to drive moisture out by heating.

My (as do a great many others) caravan spends the winter months in storage without any special procedures beyond lifting cushions, and opening all locker doors to ensure good air circulation and minimise 'damp traps' in dead spaces, and condensation is no problem at all without any heating.

That said, a caravan is likely better insulated than many a MH, with the base vehicle un-insulated cab metalwork encouraging interior condensation in that area. It also possibly has more floor and roof ventilation points that encourage air circulation.

If MH properly ventilated, a dehumidifier is trying to dehumidify the World! There would be a constant supply of exterior 'moist air' replacing any 'dried air' within the MH. A dehumidifier may be of use in areas that have no ventilation and 'dead air' that is never exchanged.

The Dometic air conditioning unit has a "winter" mode, in that it will come on when the interior temperature reaches 10 degC.

I am lucky in being able to run the winter mode throughout the winter.

However, I set my home and car temperature at 18 degC all through the year, and have had only a small increase in my energy bills.

I tried running the diesel heater during the first winter, probably set it too high as I nearly ran the tank dry in about a month, so I stopped that right away, and looked for an alternative, and discovered the winter mode in the air con unit.

Serves me right for not RTFM in the first place!

There’s a recent query about condensation in the Caravan forum. Worth reading. I’d repeat what it says there - is it condensation with running water or just surfaces that feel cold? We’ve never had condensation in our MH except when we’re cooking & breathing in it ie actively producing moisture that condenses on the windscreen etc if & when it’s colder outside.
