Just noticed that you said Renault Trafic. I think most of those lads go to Stratford upon Avon. Go onto the Trafic pages on Facebook where you will meet the enthusiasts with the knowledge.
Do you not know anyone that uses Facebook that could help you out.

yeah I can ask a friend , it's quite hard to drive and I just had all the weld done and full mot a few wks ago. I might sell it and get something a bit newer if I can't sort the steering. Thanks
There are still companies that can do the power steering for a Mk1 Trafic however, the Green conversion company mentioned above can't get the parts anymore, but there are others.

The companies rely on a steering column from a specific model of car. I think the Trafics may have been from a Clio, but that's a guess. My own Fiat Ducato needed one from a Corsa B and that was quite specific. It works a treat. I am arthritic and had no problem with the Trafic. The much smaller Daihatsu was a problem, and the Fiat is now super easy with the conversion.
You need to keep shopping around to see what the different companies say. I had a hydraulic power steering set up for the Trafic which I never fitted. Now sold of course. They are still around if you look for long enough
There is a universal electronic power steering kit available for classic cars,it's quite a common update.
It's called dce microsteer,it's £695 ex vat plus fitting.
