I have a campervan, but the leisure battery is quite old now and with a couple of years never being used I think I would be wise to buy a new one now ... anyway, batteries have probably moved on since this one was bought.

Which brands would people here recommend please.

thank you

Battery Brands.

Personally I've used Platinum and Numax.

Last battery was a Numax 110ah which lasted 8 years including a lot of off-grid time.
Current battery is an X-Pro 110ah. Apparently a rebranded Numax with a lower price tag.

Go for the one with the highest Ah rating that you can afford, the Ah (Ampre hours), is supposedly the number of amps of current it will provide for a given time.

In theory, a 110 Ah battery will provide 1A of power for 110 hrs, 2A for 55 hrs etc (its DC electrics so it's just simple arithmetic). But, batteries lose their efficiency, I work in the aircraft industry and we work on the 80/80 rule, that is a battery will only be able to provide 80% of the full charge for 80% of their rating so your 110Ah battery when new will only provide:

110Ah x 80% = 88Ah x 80% = 70.4Ah (or 1A for 70.4 hrs), when older which is a long way off of the original 110Ah.

Also, unless you have a modern regulator fitted, I wouldn't bother with an Advanced Glass Matting (AGM) battery, an older regulator probably wouldn't be able to charge this type of battery efficiently.

SO regardless of which brand you go for, make sure you get the one with the highest Ah rating for your money.

Don't forget to check the dimensions. No use getting a high capacity battery only to find it won't fit.

A couple of months ago I replaced the supplied Banner 85 ah battery with this one Platinum AGM Plus Leisure Battery 12V 100Ah AGMLB6110L from Tayna Batteries. Excellent service as usual. Purchased a car battery from them in Lock-Down! I went for the AGM as I didn't want to top up a battery which happened frequently with the Banner. Changing to an AGM you have to check your charger will accept it. Had to have a slight adjustment on the solar panel controller.

We bought a Yuasa 100ah L36-EFB from Alpha batteries, Rochdale, in May 2019.
Use the search facility to see previous comments re this battery.

Good service from Alpha. The battery is hooked up a CTEK charger when not in the caravan.

After a LOT of research I replaced my 4 year old Varta AGM battery with one of these ( LEOCH SUPERIOR LEAD CARBON AGM 115AH BATTERY )

https://www.tayna.co.uk/industrial-batteries/leoch/ldc12-105-g27-dt/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3NLHh_ns_gIVFe3tCh2dwwAbEAQYAyABEgK-pfD_BwE

only tried it for a few nights off grid in the UK but I am very impressed with it

Also at the same time I replaced the PWM controller with a Victron MPPT one

I put some drain cleaner down the drain a couple of days before going away, then we had a terrible smell in the caravan, despite flushing the drain it didn't go away.

All was revealed when I opened the battery box to turn on the mover
Halfords was the quickest option, but the only battery that would fit was the HLB700 a good battery as they're rebadge Yuasa but a scary price.

I have a Lion 105ah battery in my Bongo which charges off a split charge relay when the engine is running and is permanently connected to a smart charger fitted under the bonnet and wired into the 240v circuit for charging on EHU. The battery will run the fridge and the interior LED lights and charge 2 mobiles and 2 tablets for at least 18 hours without charging.
