Hello all. I’m completely new to Motorhoming and really glad to be a member. I have just inherited a 1998 Compass Drifter 270 TFMWB from my late father and I’m struggling with what I imagine to be the basics but really want to make a go of it! So can anyone help me to understand how I can swap to leisure battery so that I can turn the interior lights, fridge etc on please?
Hello JasperAnn. Welcome Aboard.
I know nothing about it I am afraid. We just got back from a week away. No chance to get 'on air' out in the wilds. I have to rely on my husband. Come on guys, give the lady some help. Some of you should know about this sort of thing. Our forum is known for being helpful. Please give it a go.
Ok, it's quite simple once you get the hang of it.
1. In most cases, you will have a switch panel which gives you the option of using the leisure battery or the starter battery to power the habitation electrics. Always use the Leisure setting except in emergency.
The leisure battery is charged when the engine is running or when connected to the mains. Normally the starter battery is NOT charged by the mains.
2. The fridge only works on 12V when the engine is running, but generally, the gas ignition for the fridge & cooker is wired permanently to the leisure battery.
3. Generally you will find separate switches and fuses for lights, pump etc.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
