I have been recently informed that somewhere in most T&Cs of Motorhome insurance policies states that a yearly habitation check is a condition of the insurance and in case of fire caused in the habitation area, the policy may not pay out if no check carried out within the last twelve months !!!

Has anyone else heard of this or had experience of an example?

We had seen something along those lines years and years ago but for the life of us can't remember where.
If it is in our insurance now we wouldn't take any notice of it as we have annual service and habitation check done anyway.

Tina

Just looked at our caravan policy with the caravan club, it does state that with their super cover( new for old )that the caravan must be serviced and habitation checked annually after it is 5years old otherwise they may only pay market value, but don't know about motorhome insurance but it's quite possible it's the same.

Friends bought a 3 year old VW conversion and when they insured were told, as Tina says above, that if they don't have a valid habitation service , the policy will only
pay market value of van excluding conversion.
This was only last week. We have never heard of it in 15 years of owning vans.

Never heard of this one. I checked my van insurance (from C&MC) and could find no reference to habitation check. The policy only states that in the event of loss or damage, the most they will pay is the market value of the vehicle.

Captain lightning, the reason your policy says that is because you most probably have it insured for market value, I was talking about new for old policies and ours is with C&MC also.

A word of warning.

We have an extended warranty to cover habitation and water ingress in our caravan which requires the caravan to be serviced. Recently we had to claim due to damp and had major problems as each page of the service paperwork wasn't dated individually.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
