The elderly motorhome we are in the process of buying has 2 forward facing seats with seat belts. We have 2 whippets who don't really like travelling, so in the car they have harnesses which clip safety straps which go around the headrests of the back seat.

Until our new purchase arrives (Monday we hope) we can't be sure how they could travel safely.

What do others do?

I will add that one of them used to travel (with a former companion) in a cage in the boot of our estate car, but hated it and used to get so stressed and occasionally sick. She is much happier (relative term) on the back seat.

Our MH has bench seats facing each other for the beds. We attach the canvas crate to the legs for the current dog.
The previous one could hook her way out of a canvas crate, so she was attached with long leads to the handrail inside the back door, with a shorter lead attached to a harness, a longer lead attached to her collar as a fail safe. She could get onto the couch if she wanted but nowhere near the front seats.

Ours happily travels on the back seat of our campervan no problem
We use a dog good quality dog harness and a lead that clips into the seat belt clip.

We have in the past with our 1st dog tried in the car , a car harness that had every thing in one but it was a bit of fiddle to get on as it needed to be threaded throw the seat belt. The other issues we found was our dog being small was too light for the inertia to work.

We just had a net between the back and front of our car when we had dogs. Worked well. I can still picture our little Charlie when we arrived at a new site, up at the window "where are we going to now". Even when she was ill....I still miss her and Harry.
