it's a Renault traffic San remo 1996...with low mileage. I've never bought a campervan before & wondered what the main things to ask the man might be. Im a nurse & know nothing about vehicles. Thank you for any pointers. Clare
Plenty of threads on buying old campervans & Motorhomes if you search here. Main problem at that age is likely to be rust. Ask to see the Habitation Service certificate too. If there isn’t one, or it’s 10 years old, I’d be very wary (based on our experience - bird nest blocking gas fire flue, fridge never worked on gas) & get one done if you buy it. And check the age of the tyres - they should be replaced every 7 years or so, or you risk a blowout (in our experience); not a deal breaker but factor in the cost of new ones.
I agree, take a witness, but I hope it all works out well for you as it’s a lot of fun.
A habitation check is not mandatory, so I wouldn't necessarily expect to see one. Most things you can check yourself. I'd look for a recent MoT and you can check MoT history quite easily.
Check prices of similar vans to get an idea of what is a reasonable cost and look at the availability of spares etc...
Bear in mind that you might be limited in where you can drive an older van.
I'm thinking 'low emission zones' and other anti-motorist policies both here and in Europe.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Google DVLA. Mot History. Put registration number in and then click on history. This will tell you passes and failure over several years and the latest pass or failure. Look for recommendations as any of this will likely cost you to get rectified for the next MOT. Best of luck.
