I’m was considering purchasing a camper van outright but wondered if anyone has experience of a shared ownership agreement for camper ownership.
I have a 1/8th share in a narrowboat and the self managed syndicate has worked well for me over the years so wondered if others had knowledge of similar arrangements for vans.

Not something I would consider as I can't bear the thought of anyone else using my toilet!

Would it not be better to consider just renting one when you need it. Then no tax and maintenance costs to worry about and usually it will always be nearly new..

In short, I don’t think a syndicate is an option.
As far as I’m aware, a vehicle can only have one Keeper. Similarly, one person is insured with other drivers named on their cover. (My work pool car’s keeper / owner was my employer organisation; all of us who drove it had to have business use insurance & our insurance paid for damage we caused.)
I think you’d have to buy it & insure it with specific names, and have a formal or informal agreement about sharing time in the van and sharing costs of repairs, MOT, insurance etc.
The alternative is your hiring one or hiring out the one you own. There are adverts in the club magazines for rental companies that will rent your vehicle on your behalf. That option has been covered in other threads that you could search for.
And getting 8 people / couples / families to agree on the same layout might be difficult - I think there’s far more variation than there is in canal boats.

It could work with a motorhome as it would work like hire companies, but the hire is limited to the syndicate members. You would need a company to buy it, all the 8 owners to be directors who hired it for the weeks they wanted it.

Alternatively something like this could probably be arranged through an established hire company who have one motorhome just for syndicate members.
