Hi

When travelling in my campervan, we will sometimes stop off for a few days at friends’ homes, or maybe spend a period in a hotel, or villa. I feel that this is not the most unusual of trip scenarios?

I am trying to get insurance now, and today have spoken to four brokers who all tell me that they will only cover the van if it is parked overnight, while at home in the place I agree to (drive, garage, etc.) and while travelling thet it is occupied by me on every night.

I cannot be the only person guaranteeing to be occupying my van on every night that it is not locked in my garage?

I would welcome recommendations for reasonably prices insurers from fellow travellers who also leave there van unoccupied for whatever reason when not at home.

Thank you.

I searched the forum on here when our Saga insurance went up. Loads of threads. We’ve now with CaravanGuard but they might not suit your particular circumstances. We do stay in hotels (recently for a conference) while the MH is parked outside our house - not an issue. Using a well reviewed steering wheel lock might make a small difference, but I’m guessing.

Thank you for this advice, but it seems no amount of additional security devices gets round the fact that the insurers that I have spoken to refuse to cover a mobile home/campervan which may be left unoccupied overnight at any other place than that listed on the policy as its overnight storage location.

So, I guess my question still stands. Others here must occasionaly leave their van on a friends drive, in a carpark, when staying at a Airbnb, etc, so I am still interested on how you folks are insured?

Cheers.

Insurance company's calculate on a risk factor so you can only do the same. What's the odds of having your unit stolen when parked elsewhere, not impossible but probably unlikely.
All insurance offered tend to follow a standard remit across the board so I doubt you will ever find an alternative just whether your willing to take that risk
