How many here have a partly converted car/van such as Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo Renault Kangoo etc. I have a P Partner Tepee with leisure battery/split charging, basic cooking facilities and folding removable bed. Curious to know of anyone with similar vehicle, experiences of getting insurance and campsites which accept/ refuse microcampers.

Have you fitted side windows. If not and still looks like a work van this is why many sites won't allow them.

I think that the Tepee always has side windows as standard.

Yes the Teepee is the estate car version. I have one but do not use it as a camper.

I have seen conversions which usually consist of taking the back seats out and leaving them at home.

That leaves a flat bed approx 6' x 4'.

A box is fitted down each side with stackable shelves crossing between them. This forms a flat raised bed on which a mattress may be fitted. The shelves can be stacked by day to make more room.

The boxes can have draw out storage underneath or one can be a draw out kitchen unit.

I see the vloggers "Those Happy Days" have started to use a Berlingo as a "stealth" camper!!!! They apparent had it fitted out by a company that got investment from Dragons Den. Converting a car for occasional use as a camper is one thing but trying to live it it is entirely different!!!

We saw a Berlingo campervan on a site in the Lake District but it only had a single bed.

Yes the Tepee is a car with side windows. The three back seats unclip and can be lifted out and put back easily. There are many custom made conversions available, mine is basic home made and the vehicle can double as an everyday car or camper.

The company that converted my VW Crafter, sadly went out of business in 2022, used to have car conversions that had done as part of their portfolio.

I remember seeing a Citroen Berlingo being converted for a solo camper, and it had a cupboard for a camping toilet.

I have also seen a Berlingo with a rear ? drive-away awning on a campsite.

I have converted over the years for myself or my wife several small campers ie Fiat Doblo, Nissan v200, and 2 different VW Caddys. i Have also converted
a Renault traffic with pop top and a Fiat Ducatto maxi motorhome.
All of which i have had no problem insuring or getting on to campsites.
I have just sold the Traffic and i am just completing my conversion of a Ford Custom hightop which will be my new personnel van. Due to our different hobbies i am a sea kayak leader for a local club and my wife is a Gig Rower
we have our own campers my wife has a caddy and i have a ford custom and we use the Ducatto when we go away together. Converting the vans your self saves alot of money and you get exactly what you want.

We saw quite a set-up near us on a site recently: a European couple camping in a Land Rover. The back was fully loaded up, it all had to come out in a particular order of boxes and bags so that the guy could clear the double bed area (a big piece of hardboard), then make up the bed. All the bags and boxes from the back then went into the driver / passenger area at the front, like a jigsaw. There were boxes on the roof rack too. Meanwhile, his partner was cooking outside, and they ate outside at a picnic bench. They did not put up a tent or awning (it was a "no tents" site anyway), I didn't see any seats. It was a dry evening, thankfully. His curtains were neat - there must have been magnets sewn into the edges of the squares of material that he popped over the side windows (the vehicle having bare metal doors). A standard silver anti-sun screen at the front. You'd have to be meticulous about packing the right thing in the right place, otherwise it would be chaos in just a few days.
