“Reports of campervans being blown over on A87.
Police Scotland have received multiple reports of campervans being blown over on the A87 between Broadford and Portree [Isle of Skye] due to high winds caused by Storm Floris.
They are advising motorists not to travel on the Bealach na Ba road [Pass of the Cattle to Applecross] and anyone with campervans should remain parked in sheltered areas until the wind speed reduces.”
Amber alert for record-breaking strong winds covers half of Scotland until late this evening & of course, this will affect people in tents as well as MHs & caravans. Ferry services suspended too, even little ones like the Corran Ferry.
I avoided NC500 as much as possible as I do not like narrow single track roads with passing places when I was planning my Scottish tour.
I had since heard about how windy, exposed and steep in places for Apple Cross and am glad I did not do that route.
I am glad I am not in the Highlands and Isle of Skye right now as it sounds horrendous for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to be cancelled tonight for the first time due to adverse weather conditions.

DK, you’re correct: there’s a sign at the bottom of the Pass saying it’s not suitable for MHs. This seems to goad some idiots into driving it for the bragging rights on social media: ok until they get stuck across a tight corner and an ambulance needs to get past.
However, there are other beautiful easy single track roads in awesome scenery that have supermarket delivery vans using them, so I hope you’ll reconsider some time - but after this storm!

Don't know when I would return to the Scottish Highlands, however, I am planning to include Loch Lomond, Glencoe and somewhere near Ullapool.
