Hi all.... Thinking about starting small as I would use it as a car.... 1997 regius converted.... 190k on the clock... Professionally converted..... Any ideas?... I know thats vague as it all depends on how it was looked after etc etc.. I will try share the link
Can't comment too much on the campervan aspect, I looked at campers some 9-10 years ago before deciding not for me and a caravan suited my needs better.
But thinking more about the base vehicle, it's 28 years old! It may be in excellent condition with no current faults, but at some point it will need at the very least servicing and in due course repairs, thinking how easily available are spare parts?
It's I think, possibly a 'grey import' from Japan, which often only compounds parts availability!
I've run plenty of old vehicles over the years, and become acutely aware, it's not always things like filters and brake parks etc., which are often stock parts common to multiple vehicles and easily sourced, it's the 'odd' bits like lamp lenses and mirrors that become like hens teeth, but equally can take and keep a vehicle off the road! I've had to mend broken lenses and pray the MOT tester doesn't look too closely!
As the advert is from Ireland, that kind of suggests you may not be running the vehicle in the mainland UK, now I've no idea what the emission controls and regs are over there, but a very good chance a 28 year old Japanese Diesel would not be in favour at many controlled zones in mainland UK, or would fall foul of punitive penalty charges! I had a mate with a 1980's Land Rover diesel that would have cost him £100/DAY to bring inside London's M25 ring road, with further penalties as he ventured further in, crossing into yet more controlled zones! More and more areas are introducing 'clean air zones', so they do need some consideration when choosing a vehicle and whether you can avoid them! European touring also has clean air zones to deal with, and they are often absolute exclusion zones, rather than 'pay to pollute zones, so it could be a limiting factor of use. You need to do some homework to see what it's emissions are and if they impact it's use in certain areas
Nice one Monty great advice thanks..... Especially on the parts etc trying to source them.... Plus emissions I'd be doing mostly Europe..... I'll keep looking... Thanks again... Or stick with my folding camper for another year or 2
Our 32 year old MH (93 reg) is still taxed & MOTd, though not with us any more. Had 120K when we moved it on, I think. VW T4 cab - diesel engine lives that forever, our mechanic said. Monocoque MH body ie we had no leaks.
The reason we part Xd it was simply - rust in the cab & frame etc: we kept on top of it, but it was only going to be more of a problem. That is the key concern with all older MHs, the main thing I would advise checking closely.
I cant take my 12 reg car into Scottish Low Emission Zones in cities. But I can & do use Park & Ride.
