Hi!
due to illness we SORNed our Campervan, as we won't be able to use it this year and it's just sitting on the drive acting as a shed. We therefore only need insurance against theft - it seems a lot to pay for fully comp, however our current insurers (Coast, underwritten by Allianz) don't do 3rd party, fire and theft insurance.
We've previously struggled to get insurance at all as our Camper was a conversion by a small company so rather than ring round everyone I thought maybe someone here might have a recommendation?

I think this may be a good time for the old fashioned approach. If you have a local insurance broker, go and talk to them.

You will often find that third party only is often no cheaper than fully comp, depending on vehicle age/ value

3rd party only can be just as expensive like birdman has mentioned.
Have you tried the caravan club or whatever it is called now a day's for insurance?

This is precisely why I suggested going to see a broker. I'm sure that it is possible to get insurance for a vehicle in storage that is not going to be kept on a public road. Both third-party and comprehensive cover road risks so they can often be a similar price, but if the vehicle is not going to ever be on a public road, coverage for those risks isn't necessary. Any decent broker should be able to advise.

Hi, only just seen this, so sorry for late reply.

I had to sorn my self build a couple of years ago, luckily I was with Comfort insurance the premiums were already low. Perhaps you would be better just looking around for a new insurer with a lower premium. As insurance for sorn’d vehicles would be a niche product and probably cost more than the standard offering

Don't forget that a vehicle which is declared SORN and stored off the public highway will do zero miles per annum. As said above try the usual. When my daughter acquired her little Honda, it was declared SORN. Looking for SORN zero miles per annum insurance was quoted at around £150, for a vehicle that would only cost £350 per year for 9000 miles per annum. In the end we didn't bother with insurance as it is not compulsory for a SORNed vehicle stored off the public highway.
