Can anyone tell me where we can park a 4 berth Motorhome at Heathrow Airport for approximately 3 - 4 hours while we see our daughter safely on her way back to Australia from Terminal 1(her plane leaves at 10.20PM).
Everywhere we contact seems to be for 3 days or more and we can't get any info. from anybody regarding the normal parking near Terminal 1.
We would appreciate any help as we then have to find ourselves a camping area nearby that will let us return after 9PM..........any suggestions?
We are staying at Abbey Wood the three days previous to her departure.
Height Restrictions
All the Short Stay car parks have a general height limit of 2 metres (6' 9").
Overheight vehicles up to 2.6 metres (8' 9") may park on the roof of car park 4 (serving Terminal 4) and vehicles up to 2.4 metres (8') may park on the ground floor of car park 3 (serving Terminals 1, 2 and 3).
Vehicles over this height need to park in Business or Long Stay car parks. Please call the BAA information line on 0870 000 1 000 (UK) or +44 (0)121 410 5105 (from outside the UK).
Alternatively, you can use the West Ramp Coach Park system. For further information, please call Ground Operations on +44 (0)20 8745 4625.
You will need to try to park on the Pink Elephant Car Park (on northside of the airport) and then get their courtesy bus to the terminal, their transfer buses go through the same gates so height shouldn't be a problem. I think they have a 3 day minimum, but if you ring them you may be able to sort something out, if not they may be able to recommend somewhere.
I have been in touch with some aviator friends of mine who say
''Try the Renaissance Hotel - no barriers and if you drop your bags at the front you can catch a service bus if you don't want to be ripped off for the hotel hoppa bus. £10 for 24 hours''
Smuggle in a XXXX to calm your nerves after trying to park at Heathrow! Just kidding and good luck. We have just returned from UK and Europe (shipped our Toyota campervan over and it's on the way back to Oz now.) Had a fabulous time and can recommend a few little gems.1.Low Park Wood at Kendal in the Lakes district. (Old Gun Powder Factory) and 2. Killen in Scotland near Pitlochry. 3. Cross Bush just outside Arundel towards Littlehampton. I think they are all Caravan & Camping Club sites. If you are going to Europe, the Black Horse Farm just outside Folkestone is good for the night before or after.
Anything we can help you with just ask. Fran & Martin
Thanks for the tips on the camping sites. This will be our third trip to the UK, prevously we've had a VW pop-top Campervan and a 4 Berth Motorhome and have also toured France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Belgium & Austria but this time we've decided to concentrate on England & Scotland with a side trip into a couple of places in Wales.
Would love to hear about your trip sometime as there are quite a few places we would love to visit........... maybe next time. We are going to the Edinburgh Tattoo which is one thing I have wanted to experience for a long time.
We are members of the Caravan Club & are going to join the Caravan & Camping Club when we get to the UK as I left it too late for them to post the Membership cards etc to us in Oz (my fault too caught up in the other details) and it is hopeless trying to ring them and seems no other way to contact them by email.
People on this forum have been absolutely fantastic with helpful advice. We are really looking forward to our trip and so will our daughter when she finishes her Uni. exams. My husband is from Liverpool UK and we are visiting his Sister and family on the Isle of Man for a week 1/7 - 8/7 then picking up our Motorhome in Derby.
Thanks once again, if we think of anything I'll post on Forum
I've just received the following info that may be useful for you......
If you go along the A4 towards Slough and turn right towards Sipson at the Texaco Garage/Park Inn Hotel (or left if heading towards Hounslow), you can park just along the road around the corner from the Park Inn for free. May cars/vans park on the bridge over the M4 spur each day. Then just walk back around the corner to the bus stop outside the Renaissance and get the bus for free to the central bus station.
I will reply to your email tomorrow, been a bit busy lately!
