I have found that when towing a car there just isn't enough grunt up hills etc.

Does anyone have any experience of tuning the engine for more go ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Nick

Hi - i know its a long way from you - but try TB turbos in Lancaster. They can put a chip into the electrics on newer models, or tune the turbo settings on older models. Ours is a 99 fiat - we had the turbo tune, it cost about £ 300. The difference is amazing. We had no pull at all up hills, we were being passed by artics on long hills. Now the van pulls like a train, steady 60 - 70 mph on motorway, and fuel consumption wasnt affected at all.

Many thanks for your recommendation.I had an intercooler fitted on a Hymer I had by TB.

I had just thought of them and I am pleased because mine is a 1999 mechanical pump as well and you confirm that it is worth it. Thanks again.

The TDi FIAT Sofim engine is a fine power unit. It is already fitted wth an intercooler.

I don't see how more power can be extracted from it easily.

However I have known them not to have the accelerator adjusted correctly. I think they may well be set slack when new to stop delivery drivers killing the motor.

Push the pedal to the floor & then get a.n.other to see if the accelerator shaft lever on the pump has any slack. On one I looked at recently the shaft was only half open. It was the cheapest performance increase the owner could ever have had.

The other point note is that if you have a late pre JTD engine you will probably be suffering that over high top gear.

You can increase the 127BHP from the Fiat 2.8 common rail engine by having a Vanaaken chip or smart box fitted. Check out,www.vanaaken.com

The 1999 Fiat Ducato is a mechanical pump so no poss of a chip.I have found that TB Turbos can do the same mechanically to reset the pump to give 15-25% increase, so its booked in on our back from the lakes in August.
