The fridge in my M reg Hymer 544 works on mains hook up and on 12 volt but not on gas.  I don't know what fridge it is because it has a "Hymer" label on the front.

To oporate it on gas I turn the gas on, switch the vehicle electrics on, switch the red rocker switch on that then starts flashing until I press the knob that is supposed to ignite the gas holding it down for ten seconds.  When I let it go the red rocked switch has stopped flashing which should mean that the fridge gas flame has ignited.  The only problem is that I can not see a gas flame hole in the back of the fridge which has been in every other motor caravan fridge that I have had.

There is a black rocker switch with a fan sign over it which I would like to know the purpose of if any knows but my main question is:  What's the problem and how do I fix it?

I've cracked it or at least a chap who visited me today and who also has a Hymer 544 did.  He told me that the 12'' X 10'' panel that has been attached to the rear of the motor home with self tapping screws had been cut to allow access to the rear of the fridge as its about the only way that these masters of engineering allow one to get to it.  One can then see a gas pipe that goes into a tube and which when removed has what looks like a top hat on the end of it.  In that top hat is a minute hole which sometimes blocks and when cleaned allows gas to go through and the fridge to work.  I tried it and it now works.

The fan may be to aid cooling by moving the hot air at the rear of the fridge when you are in a very hot Climate.

Congrats on your discovery, if I had seen this thread sooner I could have advised.

Only two weeks ago I also found the small panel at the back and cured my fridge/gas problem!
