My campervan has got 2 seatbelts in the back but these are lapbelts and the child seats my daughter has got for her 2 children won't fit on them. I'm taking them on holiday next week and it would be cheaper to buy 2 new seats I guess than hire a car. Anyone know of a make/model that fit lapbelts?

Hi

We've got a Britax Freeway for our Grandchildren. It can be used on both 3 point seat belts and on lap belts.

It never seems quite so stable on a lap belt, but it's better than nothing and I don't suppose they would be allowed to make them if they were not safe.

Halfords often have them on special offer.

Brilliant Pauline, thank you, I'll go and see if they've got any offers at Halfords tomorrow.

I would definitely shop around I have always found Halfordds extremely pricey for car seats so if they are not on offer I'm sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere. Also some of the old style metal frame car seats were designed for use with a lap belt so it may be worth asking around if anyone still has one of these.

Babysrus have got them for £64.95 so will see if they've got them in stock in the Birmingham branch. Also found a new one on Ebay for £49.95 but P&P would be another tenner. There are used ones on Ebay for as little as £10 but there are Government warnings not to buy a used one as it might have been in an accident. Sounds unlikely to me and all the used ones on Ebay say that they haven't been, guess it's a matter of whether you trust the seller or not!

we also used a britax freeway on a lap belt ,I found it more secure on a lap than on the three point its used with now , trick is when fitting it to put your knee in it and press it down hard into the upholstery, having previously adjusted the belt so that it appears too tight, then when plugged in with your weight off it should be solid, may have to plug it in and out a few times to get the right belt length as it was almost impossible to tighten mine up with the car seat in place and the seatbelt plugged in

Does anyone know if the Britax Freeway can be used on rear facing seats with lap belts? I would have thought it might be safer than forward facing?
