Does anyone know of a weekly hire firm? I only want a very small van, not a large Eldiss type (nice though they are!)

Have a look at the Companies Directories under Caravan and Motorhomes and Equipment and Motorhome hire. There may be a couple near you.

Have you thought about hiring an old Volkswagen Camper there are a few companies where you can hire 1970's campevans, my girlfriend hired me one for a birthday surprise a few years ago, as soon as we got back we started looking to buy one, got one a month later and never looked back. This is where we hired ours from, great vans really well maintained.
