we generally just follow the coast, from Roscoff you could drive west and south along the south coast of brittany right along to St Nazaire [Le Croisic is nice], then depending how much time you have you can drive up to Mont St Michel, check out the Cotentin [Cherbourg] peninsula and then back along the coast to Roscoff.
Weather in September may not be so good, in which case keep heading south La Rochelle and sites south of there in Charente Maritime are good.
Municipal sites are usually good value, and easy to find - just look for a small town and with luck you could find a site.
