as i am new to moterised camping, could anyone give me information on what to look out for when buying a vw t25. i have the chance of buying one of these ,i think its 1988 2.1 engine 40,000 mls engine starts and runs but is smoking.aparently had a fire in back some where but has been fixed.any experiences and advise much apprecieted thanks jim
Welcome to the UKCS forum ! i see you mension the engine is smoking, well when we bought our T25 ,i drove it home to Leeds from Hull, about 60 odd miles in total, the day after i noticed that the engine was smoking slightly, 1 week later you couldn't see down the road for the thick grey smoke, took it to a guy i know and he says it needed a new engine cos once they start smoking , it's usually a re-con or new , i got a re-con from VWspares down south , good luck M8 what ever you decide on T25's are fantastic to drive , and so much fun .

Firstly welcome to the site. We bought a T25 off of ebay in November last yr which had a 1600 l engine on a high top. we needed to upgrade the engine as it wasnt pulling the van at all (too much drag) but found out that the engine was knackrd to say the least. Is this van a high top or flat top or pop top? we now have a 1990 VW with a diesal turbo engine and shes great. Love the T25's think theyve got loads more room than the T3 and T4's. Where abouts are u located? after all this time have found out quite a bit about the VW T25 and could give u a few numbers but jueypooey says try club 80 - 90 they are there for the VW owners and have helped me a great deal also.
Good luck and happy camping - once u have one ull never look back!! and remember to wave

Hi Ann ! if you go onto Club80-90 forum , and go into members 'Pride&Joy' page, click onto 1983 , scoll down and you will see our 'Nannybus' displayed there ! ! Ho ! and a T3 is a T25 , and in the VW campervan circle the T25 is called a 'Wedge'

thanks to all your replies at least we have some good people out there. except dr pepper who is a great help to no body if that is the way he thinks. hope he does not need help at any time
we've been told we have a problem with the engine on our van. It's a 1.6turbo diesel but seems very slow. Might have to get a re-con too. Oh well, love the van apart from that and has loads of room, much more than a Bay. Also, apparently they are better to drive than the older ones.
If you can get your hands on a copy of VW camper & bus magazine issue 3 there is a good article on T25 including buying tips etc. I've found it a really useful mag. Club 80-90 is good for browsing and as a non male VW owner all replies have been helpful. Justkampers also has a useful Kamperchat forum.
