 we started with a splitty, then a bay and on through a few t25's of which we loved every minute of them, so when i found out that we 2 were going to be 3 (yipee) i decided to look around and upgrade the van, talk about choices,,,in the end a friend in the campervan trade came up trumps, i spent a bit more than i planned but it should last us for the next 5yrs., its almost finished and its going in for a habitation check next week, the  question of the day is... what items are invaluble when going away for the first time with a 6 month old bundle of joy

How about some ear plugs for the 'neighbours'

.....only joking..... it's great to hear that you are getting your little one into camping at such an early age and your little bundle will sleep like a log with all the fresh air.

It's been a long time since our 'bundles' were little campers but I'd suggest you get something to stop them falling out of the open door once they can crawl - there are lots of good lightweight, folding stair gate type things around these days. Apart from that you probably only need a folding camping cot which could also be used outside as a playpen during the day and perhaps one of those travel high chairs which clamp to the table (if your van table is sturdy enough to hold it). Plus, of course, all the usual stuff they need at home anyway which is far too much to list!!

 Lots and lots of wet wipes. But being a campervaner you must already know these ae statutory items when camping!

Lots and lots of plastic bags to put the washed and unwashed in! A good one is using a mobile hung inside above his travelling postion. He/She will fall asleep to this whilst the van is in motion and should hopefully do it when your pitched.

 Oh, and did I say lots and lots of baby wipes?

hi, we found that at six months old the bundle of joy was easier to manage than a 1 year old (we are having fun now!) we used a carry cot when she was small and I wish we had one of those folding cot beds that are around now but too old.  the most valuable thing we found was a bumbo seat that is lightweight and moulds to the little one, she loved it, they can eat in it play in it and be safe in it.  as she has got older we have just brought a cossatto on the move highchair which folds down into itself and is great for carrying and doesn't take up too much space.

hope this helps - also a light weight pushchair is essential we have a quinny zapp that has its own carry bag.

Good luck with your first trip

before you go away make a list of the things that you use at home everyday with the baby.  Then decide which of these should go in the van it's home away from home so shouldn't be to hard to figure out.  Maybe the first time you go just go for one night and close to home.  Then if you have forgotten anything you can go home and if all is well ask to stay longer.

Its alomost easier the younger they are! Try camping out for a night and ay while still at home, you will soon make a list of all the things you forgot. I agree about babywipes and palstic bags. Also either old towels or terry nappies, always come in useful. We never bothered with a cot, S just slept with us and it worked really well and we all got more sleep including the neighbours.

You need less than you think, but unless you want to visit the laundry, double up on baby clothes and sheets.
