Hi all, hope someone can help.

I’ve not used my water heater for about 6 years now as I tend to use the showers on site. When I went to use it the other day, it’s blowing the left hand fuse in the control panel ( the one with the red yellow and red lights ).

If I remove the fly lead DIN plug from the bottom of the heater, the fuse doesn’t blow.

The problem is obviously the wiring within the heater itself. Without taking the heater out of the van and stripping it down, can anybody tell me if they have had one of these apart and what sort of wiring arrangements am I likely to find, ie printed circuit boards etc.

By the way this is not the 240 volt version.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

TomB

Hello Tom

It would be of great help if you could include the model of your heater for others to help you. I have just checked for info on Google and found this with photos http://www.birminghamuk.com/camper/heaterinstructions.doc

Hope it helps.

Don i should have said it is the carver cascade 2.

I've got a circiut diagram for the control panel, thats the photo on the right hand side of your link above.

That part operates ok. It's the actual wiring in the heater itself i'm after. As i said, as soon as i plug the DIN plug into the bottom of the heater, the fuse blows.

I've looked on the carver touble shooting giude but all it says is check the wiring for shorts. It dosent give any common causes

Tom

(By the way this is not the 240 volt version) ?? 12V ignition/gas operated? I'm not familiar with the Carver heater. If it has been out of service for 6 years then I would suggest you have some corrosion which is causing a short circuit. I doubt whether there is a defect in the cable/wiring harness. Have a look here for Carver heater problems and answers http://forums.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-forums.showdiscussion/thread_id-8909/startrow-581/maxrows-20/f4ed558e.html

It's working again.

I took the flue cover off on the outside of the van and found a moth creating a short circiut between the ignition probe and the burner body. I removed the moth and hoovered out a small amount of dust from the burner and hey presto.

Iv'e kept a copy of your link above just in case i get other problems in future.

Thanks again Don
