My Speedo went funny on the way down to Truckfest a couple of weeks ago, neddle started to go crazy, and it gave up the ghost, not worked since, today i had a look at it and its the funniest setup i have ever see , lol , being rear engined the cable goe's to the near side front wheel, and though a square hole to the outside of the grease cap with a little sprunge clip to stop it falling back through, i undid the speedometer end and then went to the other end and turned the inner cable, round and round whilst my O/H looked to see if it was turning at the other end , and it was, so i know that the inner cable is not broken inside the outer cable, on inspection of the grease cap i noticed that the 'Square hole was worn , it has rounded itself over time, so the square end of the inner cable is not being turned as the wheel goes round , so i rang 'German and Swedish' and found out i can buy the speedo cable , you can only buy it with inner and outer ! £21 + the dreaded vat, but apparently the nearside front grease cap that you have to have is obcelete.... Great !!!! any idea's lads ?

Sorry to hear this nannycatch. Our speedo needle is a bit wobbly in low speed but when it gets up to 35-40mph it's fine. I don't envy you trying to sort that one out. Good luck fella.
OHHh!! dont talk about speedo cables Nannycatch, ours went a couple of weeks ago on the Swift Sundance....... 7 garages later its still not done apparently the speedo cable and clock is working, its something in the gear box that drives the speedo has gone. The first Fiat dealer quoted me £350 + vat plus £38 for just looking at it......... 7 garages later I have found one than can do it will cost £250 + vat and thats is the cheapest I can find. Arggggg!! just for a speedo.

My speedo lies, it requires a new cable also and my garage man said he would sort something out when I had the oil changed the other day - whatever that means - but atleast I know it lies but I do like to watch it jiggle about while im going from 20 to 40 at 60 its fine its just between the lower speeds. Oh glad I don't have a swift.
TRy your local VW dealers parts dept for the grease cap--dont take no for an answer-until he says for deffo the part is deleted--otherwise try one of the breakers on 80-90 or brick-yard--
