We are in the process of selling our house, and plan to buy at auction later this year.  We don't want to get tied into an expensive rental agreement on a house and have to pay mortgage or build costs at the same time, so are looking at buying a motorhome as temporary accomodation until any new purchase is habitable.

We don't want a static caravan.

We will need to be comfortable enough to be able to spend up to 6 months living in the van - 2 people and 1 terrier, either on campsites or (when we buy something) on our own land.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Think big and buy big, within your budget of course, any long periods in too small a vehicle will cause problems for all concerned.  Cabin fever springs to mind.   kiev

Look at different layouts to see what will suit you best. Also maybe look at investing in an awning. They can give you extra space to take the pressure off the living area inside.  Would you be planning to stay in one place mainly or move around?

we lived for ten months in a 20 ft camper ,me, mrs and cat which swiftly due to cat escaping turned into cat plus 9 kittens
its easy just learn to say sorry when needed and bite your lip when a unseen habit your other half has crops up.
you ofcourse officially in england cant live on land (your own or others) without a licence and maybe planning and parking at the roadside a definate no no unless you like plod knocking at your door at 2 am
a great eyebrow lifter was when anyone called (we toured) my mrs said "i'l get my hubby he's upstairs playing on his computer" (the luton) after all theres no need to rough it nowadays
our camper (g reg autotrail apache) had a rear bed layout which meant your table was erected between the two beds (that turned into a large double) and a triple aspect view so you could put the back of the camper towards the best veiwing aspect.some we looked at (the 5 berth version) meant that only one side has the best view
