Hi to you as well anscote, with 6k in your mitt, IMHO you`ll be spoilt for choice, got mine 3 yrs ago for 5k, an I still love the old truck to bits!!!depends on what you want really,,,2 berth, 3, 4,??, but mainly, do you wish to buy privately or from a dealer??,,,,ok,,from a dealer, that would be a deposit!!! but play your cards right, look at all the ads on here, e bay, local newspapers etc, & Im sure you`ll find something right up your street!!as for mpg etc, etc,,,,forget it,,,,size for size,,,,,its really not worth the worry of thinking about. thats IMHO all about how you drive,,,,heavy foot,,,heavy breaking,,,,etc etc,,,,,just as long as your not thinking about a winnebago or some other yanke gas guzzler!!!

I can only give advice on what i know the 2.5 Fiat ducato turbo`s have enough power and return something in the region of 28 to 30 mpg.

In that range of MH you must check for damp ingress take your time and test everything as you dont want to be shelling hard earned cash afterwards.

Dealers want to off load a lot of older vans to replace with new although you could try the big auction houses they have camper and caravan sales and they go quite cheap  may have a few faults but the price is right.

Although motor caravans are commonly built on Fiat and Peugeot/Talbot chassis, most businesses buy Ford Transits.
For an older vehicle a transit base would make a lot of sense if you can find one.

I have got a 1980 Iveco, with a canadian body, so it has USA spec, it is really good inside, has a nickname of the Tardis. It has a 2ltr fiat engine wich I call a plodder, not fast but gets you there, does upto 27 mg depending how your right foot is. Just done Scotland (1400mls) with no problems. Dont really want to sell it, but money says I have too. Spent a lot on it since bought (6yrs ago) I therefor wuold like to know that it is going to a person who is going to look after it. IT (the Van) is in the For Sales on here. Its 4/5 berth, plus another  if you need it.  £5200 ONO is my price.  Best of luck in your search.
