York is nice, we used Park and Ride, Cambridge and Chester too. If we want to go to Birmingham it's a 40 minute train ride.
As we have bus passes it's more convenient to use them. Some park and rides let you have half price or free others not.

Digging this thread back up, because V&A at Dundee (eight Scottish cities: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling, and Dunfermline) has an exhibition later this year that might be of interest -
“David Bowie: On Tour is coming to Dundee!
Opening 4 November 2026, David Bowie: On Tour brings together around 100 highlights from the V&A’s David Bowie archive – many that have never been on public display before – giving a rare glimpse into Bowie’s creative process and enduring impact.”
Good sites at Tayport & Carnoustie, though I’ve not checked their opening dates; bus into the city. I find parking & the one way circuits a bit of a nightmare.

How many people.has visited the city of Wells in Somerset!!
Was there a few weeks ago. Love the market with lots of lovely food.
Yes I've been to Wells in Somerset, and I've even been to the more recent ones like Southend, but I know there are a great many more I haven't been to. Particularly those in Scotland.
Woah! There are 55 cities in England!
Bath Birmingham Bradford Brighton and Hove
Bristol Cambridge Canterbury Carlisle Chelmsford Chester Chichester Colchester Coventry Derby Doncaster Durham Ely Exeter Gloucester Hereford Kingston upon Hull Lancaster Leeds Leicester Lichfield Lincoln Liverpool London Manchester Milton Keynes Newcastle upon Tyne Norwich Nottingham Oxford Peterborough Plymouth Portsmouth Preston Ripon Salford Salisbury Sheffield Southampton Southend-on-Sea St Albans Stoke-on-Trent Sunderland Truro Wakefield Wells Westminster Winchester Wolverhampton Worcester York
If I’d known Wakefield was a city, I would have made a special trip there, last time I was “down south”. Not joking, I’m aware it has much to commend it.
Now I've seen them laid out like that, the English ones I haven't been to are; Bradford, Chester, Hereford, Lancaster, Lichfield, Ripon, Salford, and Wakefield.

I wouldn't make a special trip Fiona! The Hepworth gallery is very good though - as locals we can get in for free, but is quite pricey for other visitors.
Your post about the Dundee V&A is very interesting. With regards parking in Dundee, agree, not easy particularly in a MOHO. Last time we went we were staying at Scone and on the advice of locals, we parked easily just round the corner from Perth station and got the train. Dundee station is directly across the road from the V&A so it was very easy and very enjoyable!
