Does anyone have any games they play on holidays or long car journeys, with the kids or otherwise? We have a game called 'pub cricket', anyone know it? It's no good for motorway driving as of course there aren't any pubs on the roadside, but for A and B road trips it can keep the kids attention for ages and can be continued throughout the whole holiday.
The idea is this: every pub you pass has a name or usually a sign, you choose which you use as the basis for the game. The pub name or sign will be either the name of a person or an animal or not, such as 'The Red Lion', 'The Bell', or 'The Queen Victoria'. If it's a person or animal the person who is 'in' scores a run for as many legs as the aninal(s) or person named has, so, the Red Lion scores four 'runs' and the Queen Vic scores two. The Bell scores nil in which case the 'batsman' is 'out' and the next person is 'in', and so on.
Anyone have any similar games or ideas to keep the kids entertained?
Spotting(and counting) the Eddie Stobbart lorries on the M way and reading the girls names on the front would keep mine amused on a long journey...I always came last in this game as I was driving
But became so conditioned by the game that I still cry out "EeeeDie Stooobart!!!" when I see one these days.....

We do bingo. I print off road an A4 paper with road signs, animals, vehicles - all things what you see on your journey. Give each one a point value. Obviously a hard to spot unusual sign or vehicle would get lots of points - cows etc get less. The kids all have a copy and put a tick each time they see an item. At the end of journey totals are added up and see who the winner is.
Sad but keeps the kids occupied.

Managed 1 2 and 3 in various combo's..Sometimes all at the same time...Striving hard for No 4 (Though running out of ideas)Hopefully it will be years till I master No5...There's no topping..or coming back for a second chance at that....
